“What might the shape of global culture look like today if there were no exotic cultures to discover or faraway places to explore?” – Okwei Enwezor

A journey that started at the pigeon shed in the back of my grandfather’s garden situated on the Flemish countryside, with its typical shed constructions, dark interiors and the pigeon sport, became a small revolt against the fact that within art and design we still look towards foreign cultures for inspiration and often from a very dominant Western point of view. This research led to an installation where different media and materials like textiles, wood and ceramics create their own universe, inspired on the artifacts and images I gathered during his journey, the act of collecting and constructing without any aesthetic plan.
